Da das gerade auch bei Engadget vorgestellt wurde, möchte ich hier meinen rant einfach wiederholen:
This device is utter crap in so many ways, ... so many obvious ways, that it baffles me why everyone seems to cheer at this piece of shit.
1. Despite the fancy buttons and other things like that, everyone should be able to detect, that its way overpriced and all those parts would never ever cost that much money (the BOM) and that there is a fucking outrageous profit margin in it for the producing company. Hell, its even priced worse than shiny apple toys.
2. But of course this device is marketed at smug gamers with a lot of cash and not enough brain mass, people who are just dumb enough to fling away huge amounts of money when they hear the word 'gaming'.
Well then why the fuck is there no gaming graphics card included? Today all those console gaming idiots don't know anything about hardware anymore and even those who still recognize the brand name Geforce probably don't have a clue what the following but very important number even states. A 555M is just a mid range card, why is there no AMD Radeon HD 6990M as the fastest card on the market inside?
3. There is a performance mismatch in the system, the GPU is, as just explained, not powerful enough, but the CPU is one of the fastest available and costs 350 american dollars. Yes every game needs a decent CPU, but most games don't need more than that, however most games need a really fast GPU and why didn't they build this whole thing the other way around? By saving money through the use of a upper mid range CPU, they could have probably financed a top end GPU completely.
4. What is the purpose of a gaming notebook? It probably won't last half an hour without power, so you can only carry it from one socket to another. In a time where no one goes to LAN parties anymore, you really don't have to be that mobile. If you study in another city and want to go home in the semester pause, you could use a portable device yeah, but from that money you could just buy TWO stationary gaming PCs that are WAY more powerful than this thing, and then you wouldn't have to carry this brick around. And included in that equation is of course a nice 24 inch widescreen also full HD monitor that always has a better panel = image quality than a notebook screen, that is usually only trimmed to consume less power. I never understood why anyone wants to play games on a notebook that runs hot in the process and emits deafening noise instead of a plain old silent PC. You can always buy an additional, cheap non gaming notebook or tablet or whatever from the money you save....
just think about it for a minute
